Ellen’s Marker

Ellen Davies Rodgers (1903-1994) inherited Davies Manor Plantation in 1931. She restored the property and opened it for tours. She even founded Davies Manor Association in 1977.

Ellen Davies Rodgers also worked as a teacher, principal, author, and Shelby County historian. She served as a representative in two TN constitutional conventions. She was also influential in determining the course of development in this area. She personally helped plan the layout of the Davieshire development on former plantation land. She was also instrumental in getting a bridge built over I-40.
