Gristmill

A gristmill is a tool used for grinding grain into meal. Some sort of engine of power source turns heavy millstones, which pulverize the grain. The methods used to power this tool have changed over time. The engine displayed here comes from a 1926 Ford Model T. Water and mules are more traditional power sources. A gristmill at Davies Plantation would have served residents of the plantation as well as smaller farms in the area.

The structure that houses this gristmill was built by a local Boy Scout troop in 2010. A corn shucker and a cider press are also displayed here.
